Environment
Daitai-ji is a historic sacred site of medicinal healing, founded about 1,200 years ago by Saichō, the founder of Mount Hiei. Located along the Kumano Kodo road in Nachikatsuura-cho, the temple is said to have originated from a statue of Yakushi Nyorai, carved by Saichō to seal off a giant snake.
Nestled in the hills along the Ota River—whose source is the same as the famed Nachi Falls—Daitai-ji offers a tranquil retreat surrounded by towering trees over 100 years old. Here, under a sky full of stars and immersed in the soothing sounds of the forest, you can experience a deep connection with nature in this truly special place.
