About Us
Torikaiura, Awaji Island — the birthplace of the owner’s grandfather. Nestled in harmony with this unspoiled landscape of a small fishing harbor and sprawling onion fields, TORIKKA STAY was created as a place to reset and return to yourself. At the heart of what we value is the luxury of doing nothing. With that in mind, the space has been thoughtfully designed with room to breathe — a grand living and dining area beneath a soaring arched ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows framing the sea and sky, and smooth hardwood floors that feel gentle underfoot. Our aim is a private island retreat where guests feel free to open up and simply be. Adding to the experience are dinner plans featuring the rich bounty of Awaji Island, prepared by our on-site restaurant, and a wood-fired sauna where you can soak in the view of the ocean — both distinctly our own.
Environment
Awaji Island, where this property is located, is described in Japan’s oldest chronicles — the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki — as the first land created by the gods. Nearby stands Izanagi Shrine, and the memory of ancient times still breathes through this singular place. On its western shore lies Torikaiura, where TORIKKA STAY sits along Shin-Goshikihama, a beach adorned with smooth, colorful stones in five beautiful hues. Once a beloved gathering spot for locals, the beach is now graced only by the sound of waves — a serene and quietly mystical space.
