Environment
Houkou-ji Temple, located in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is the head temple of the Houkou-ji School of the Rinzai sect and one of the most renowned Zen temples in the Tokai region. Founded in 1371 by Zen Master Mumon Gensen, a son of Emperor Go-Daigo, the temple features a vast historic complex, including the Main Hall, Three-Story Pagoda, and Kaisando Hall. Twenty-two buildings are registered as national cultural properties, preserving centuries of Zen tradition. Visitors can stroll through the temple grounds, surrounded by seasonal beauty, and immerse themselves in the world of Zen. Open for viewing from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
