  • More About Us

Habanobo is a historic shukubo in Mt. Minobu, offering more than just accommodation—it is a retreat for restoring inner balance. Following the philosophy that time spent in a shukubo is a form of spiritual training, we do not provide TVs or entertainment in rooms or common areas, creating a peaceful setting for self-reflection. The evening service includes a dharma talk and an exhibition of Buddhist items, while mornings begin with a solemn ceremony at Kuon-ji Temple. Guests can enjoy carefully prepared shojin ryori, free from all animal products, and experience meditation, sutra transcription, and other mindful practices. Step away from the busyness of daily life and spend time in a space dedicated to peace and contemplation.

    Environment

Habanobo is one of the oldest temple lodgings in Mt. Minobu, founded in 1280 by a samurai, Shijo Kingo Yorikiyo. Though affected by fire in the Meiji era, it was rebuilt, and the current main hall was reconstructed in 1990. The temple enshrines Nichiren Shonin, the guardian deity Shichimen Daimyojin, and Shijo Kingo and his wife. A unique pilgrimage route takes visitors through the grand temple gate and up the 287 steps of the Bodai Stairway, symbolizing a journey of self-purification. We invite you to visit Habanobo and experience the tranquility and spiritual renewal it offers.
